Hi Guys,

I'm in looking to be in the market for a new microphone for skype, making YouTube videos and other applications such as making audio samples and recording things like acoustic guitar and vocals for songs. Needs to be versatile :P I do not want a USB mic, and I would prefer it to be condenser as I need a shock mount for it. I've been eyeing up an Audio Technica AT2020. In an ideal world, I'd like the money for a Rhode NT2A, but my budget is going to be somewhere in the region of 150 of your USA dollars.

Thanks for your help

I own a BLue Yeti but I prefer the looks of the AT2020. I just went with the Yeti because of the features it offers.

There is in fact an XLR version of the AT2020 that is cheaper than the USB version :D I'm going to look up some sound tests of the AT2020 and the mic you suggested, Joel

Which feature enticed you?

Not that I will use it but the real time recording you can listen to with headphones, the four different pattern modes, and the fact that it has a lot of great reviews on amazon. My only problem is the microphone picking up my keyboard (need to turn gain down a little and reposition the mic still). I thought about the AT2020 heavily, I like AT a lot too. The Blue Yeti was $20 off when I was looking at microphones so I jumped on it. I need to get that Samson shock mount and the stand for it though.

I think I'll go with the AT2020, then. I already have two different stands to choose from :P Shock mount is necessary though. Thanks for your help :)

Write a review in the forum when you get a chance to use it and post a video/recording. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it so I could know what it could've been like. Also how is the shockmount necessary for you? I'm assuming you need this for absolute perfect recording of instruments in a studio environment?

Shockmount is because i prefer to keep the mic on my desk and without it, the keyboard keypresses and dodgy vibrations through my desk are picked up. That and it stops noises from accidental stand nudges and things. I can get a comparison audio-wise with a snowball, my current mic and a headset mic. Look out for my review on here :D I'll probably be getting one in the summer sometime

I personally don't care for a comparison of the snowball. My friend has one and I was kindof unimpressed with it. I have the same issue with nudges and stuff and I prefer to not have the mic on my desk anymore. Perhaps I shall get this shockmount as well.
