Installing ubuntu on a second partition.

If i were to install ubuntu on a second partition (currently running win10) Would i be able to access my windows files via ubuntu and vice versa?

You will be able to access your Windows files while on Ubuntu, but you will not be able to access your Ubuntu files while on Windows.

Yes,You can access NTFS partitioned windows drives in ubuntu.

 

But sometimes when you hibernate or use shutdown in Windows 8 and go to ubuntu you cannot access your windows drives because windows locks them in an unsafe state. This is because the shutdown in Windows 8 is actually a partial hibernation.

This problem does not exist in Windows 7.

 

To access these drives in ubuntu you need to boot into ubuntu after full shutdown(i.e. restart) in Windows 8 or disable fast startup in Windows 8.
