Hey I'm about to move to an SSD and I am I just want to make sure I'm planning to do this right.  All I have to do is clone my current drive and then switch my boot drive to the new SSD right?  Also I read somewhere online that I will run into problems with windows thinking that this is a new computer and I will have activation problems.  Is this true and how can I avoid this?

Thanks

err dont buy new windows setup... and well its up to you if you want to pirate (even tho this forum forbid us to promote this!! bad bad @babadoctor)

but there is a way to deactivate the key and then use it on another computer (which is well "another" computer once you install SSD and reinstall windows)

follow the guide here: http://www.howtogeek.com/124286/how-to-uninstall-your-windows-product-key-before-you-sell-your-pc/

and download windows 7 (uncracked/unmodified) image somewhere and burn it to cd/make bootable usb memory stick and install/format the new system with it and use the windows activation key acquired from the last step

EDIT: forgot the part where if there is "OEM" in the keys that you find using the guide, then you're hmmm screw? or maybe not? OEM keys means that the specific key is bound to the specific motherboard hwid.... which I personally do not know if it retains the possibility to activate once deactivated

EDIT #2: holy crap... I forget many things today... anyhow the above linked guide doesn't show how you get your current activation/product key from your current system and the guide for that is here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/153626-product-key-number-windows-7-find-see.html

PLEASE QUOTE OR TAG (WITH @) ME IF YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT ME TO REPLY!!!!!!!

Also if your issue is solved don't forget to mark the thread as solved!
Peace!!! from a random person in the tech's god forsaken land (named Finland or as I like to call it sarcastically FUNland)

Why should i avoid cloning?  Just because of errors in the cloning process?

No for example SSD's when installed from fresh, Windows will recognize its an SSD and allign the data into 4096 alignment correctly. Cloning straight from HDD>SSD will not do this and you will take a performance hit. Also for you key issue just google Microsft key finder, there are loads.

We do not speak of piracy/cracks on the forum.

Okay ): i just thought that if he paid for it why not? hes not really stealing if he erases the other drive ):

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"
