Web Browser isses

Hi guys I've just built a PC for my gran for mainly Web browsing.

MSI AM1I motherboard

AMD 5350 APU

SanDisk 128gb SSD

8GB Gskill 1600 Ram

Windows 8.1 Standard

I though for mainly Facebook YouTube Skype Scrabble this would be fine and it may well be, I've installed Chrome and it seems painfully slow to the extent Internet Explorer is faster but even that isn't very fast as well.

Anyone have any clue why this would be? Brand new build clean install SSD Plenty of ram I thought this would be easily enough to run Web browsers snappy?

Update drivers, and if this gets solved, I know I may get flamed for this, but install ad block. I know some are against it, but for someone elderly and not so computer savvy, it prevents them from clicking on fake download buttons  and other scam ads that usually end up in malware pretty quickly. 

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

well you really must love your gran to be using and ssd rather than an hdd

Yeah I've put ad bock on chrome because that crossed my mind!

As in updating the motherboard bios? I've ran all the windows updates ect

Hahaha yep! She won't use much storage but will complain about it being slow lol she deserves something good!

check if windows has detected all of the ram.
Check if you've installed windows in AHCI mode (check in bios under boot options if it says AHCI or IDE.)
You will need to reinstall windows if it is in IDE mode.

Yeah it's definitely detecting all the ram I checked that after the install, I didn't get an option to install in any mode when I ran the installer but I'll check that tonight. Noob question but what's the difference?

AHCI is much faster, and is what it should be used.

You don't get to choose during install, you have to select it in the bios and then install Windows.

Wouldn't that affect the whole performance of the Pc and not just the Web browsers though?

You are right about that. I suspect its java-script on the browser that is slowing it down. Even on my setup script heavy websites  are very slow. This might be your culprit.

It's was on AHCI already. I'm sure compared to her old pc she won't think it's slow might just be me lol

She seemed happy enough...... Well until she noticed solitaire looked different..... :-/

Now to find a way to put windows 7 solitaire on Windows 8.1 lol
