amd phemon 955be 95w

Go to solution Solved by TechFan@ic,

AMD CPUs aren't like Intel CPUs, even if the multiplier is locked you can still overclock using the bus frequency.

I think being a black edition, you can oc it pretty well..

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v

Looks good. I might be tempted to add a heatsink over the mosfets but apparently they're fine without it.

ok i got told this yeah..non be 955 processor, multiplier locked.

usually 95w version is rather hard to overclock than 125 watt.

but is that true and i have a nh-d14

Yeah, that's an overkill cooler for this. The phenoms hit stability issues before they overheat on a hyper 212. Also the 95W version is multiplier locked but on AMD you can raise the baseclock significantly. I've got a 965BE and I and using the stock multiplier because I can push it further using the baseclock!

But it's hard to know what your CPU can take in terms of overclocking. Aparently that chip was rare and rarer in a motherboard that could overclock it.
