Ok, I have two hard drives both have steam games on them. I want to move some of them over to the other hard drive how do I go about doing this?

Easiest but most time consuming is uninstall the ones on the other hard drive than reinstall them on the one you want or go to steamapps and look for your games then copy them over. Just google ,how to get to steamapps folder, and it should show you how to get to the folder.

Easiest but most time consuming is uninstall the ones on the other hard drive than reinstall them on the one you want or go to steamapps and look for your games then copy them over. Just google ,how to get to steamapps folder, and it should show you how to get to the folder.

When I copy them over they won't launch due to Steam not knowing where the game is.

Did you replace them in the same steamapps folder on the other hard drive? If so either do what the person above said or have a nice new install.

When I copy them over they won't launch due to Steam not knowing where the game is.

usually whenever you start a installation process, a map will be created with the name of the game and so on, if the map already exists then it moves over to the next step of installing each file, as you already have the majority of those files there, it'll skip most of em. Its just a step to make steam recognize that there's a game there.

 

in other words, whenever you start the installation, make sure that all the games files are in the correct map and steam will take care of the rest.

Well ok, lets say you have a folder in HDD 2 (the one u want the game to be in) called Steam Library. that's a location steam will install games. You move wot game u have on HDD 1 over to that map and steam will notice that there isn't a game where its supposed to be and be grayed out (uninstalled), giving you the option to install the game again. This is where u choose where u want it to be installed, which will be on your HDD 2 (folder: Steam Library)

if it doesn't and theres nothin in the original folder, you're free to just uninstall from the steam client to get that option. theres nothin there so should be instant (the uninstall)

Then 'uninstall' it so Steam unrecognizes the original directory, then click on 'install' and point your new install directory to the place you moved the game files.  Steam will start discovering the existing files and you won't have to download a thing.
