i7 4790k 40-45 Degrees at idle

Go to solution Solved by Lumi,

My 4770k was like this last time i resat the CPU. It just took a while for the thermal paste to spread out evenly.

so my i7 4790k has high idling temps. I have a h80i cooler on it... I have already tried reseating my cpu and that didn't work... Any ideas?

no, not oc and when reseating i put new thermal paste on. and the temp while playing games (the crew) is 45-68 degrees Celsius.

I'd check to see what rpm the pump is running at. Otherwise I'm going to assume you turned off dynamic frequency scaling.

the pump is at 2236 rmp and what is dynamic frequency scaling and where do you turn it off?

Dynamic frequency scaling lowers your CPU's frequency while idle instead of running full bore when not needed. If you go to control panel, power options, and set it to balanced you'll probably have the cpu drop down 10c ish when idle.

Did it lower it at all, and did you mess with voltages / C states any on the motherboard?

Ok, that idle is off... The load temps are normal not the best, not the worst. I have an I7 4770k slight overclock 4.1 @1.2v under a kraken x60 and it reaches about 50-55c under load (bigger RAD though). Do you know of any other software on your machine that would be controlling clock or power efficiency?

Or possibly a virus that could be causing the cpu to stay at a higher load?
