Build Log - Corsair 300R

egibbys

I've been wanting a new case for quite some time to allow for better airflow and easy cable management. After lots of research and Linus's insight, I decided on the 300R since is had most of the things I was looking for within my price range.

As it currently sits:

Sweet build man :D

Makes it look sooo much more beastly.

I really like the look of the two 460's :D

The only thing that could make it look nicer now would be some sleeving for you power cables if you want.

The first step to insanity is believing in your sanity.

Wow this looks very aggressive in the aesthetics, love the lighting, really sets it off nicely! Can't think of anything really to make it better, very nice how it is mate!

Maybe an SSD for boot and steam drive if u aren't currently running with one? That'd be it though...

what is that CPU cooler? that fan look sick!

Its a Cooler Master Hyper N 520. I'm thinking of changing though, or possibly some different fans for it. It's a little loud for my taste.

I like the setup, looks good. As you asked how you could improve it, here it goes:

Black SLI bridge;

Black Sata cables;

Route the front panel connectors behind the motherboard, looks cleaner;

I don't really like the look of the offset fans on cooler, but I'm aware you can't change it and also, that's just personal preference.

Maybe some extensions for the 6 pins, but those look pretty good as well;

Replace that god damned window(!), it looks stupid with the fan grills.

And that's it, just minor things, it looks pretty awesome as is.

Oh, and also, you need a new keyboard, mouse and a mousemat!

Nice PC! I've been looking into the 300R for some time myself. I currently have a Rosewill Future, and it's pretty much terrible. I have a few questions about your build though:

1.) What do you think of the Corsair fans?

2.) What kind of desk is that (I've been desk shopping lately, too)?

Thanks for the input. I've already been wanting to do a few things you've suggested but great suggestions none the less.

SLI Bridge - Waiting till I find a good deal. Looking for a Black 70mm. (The one I currently have bugs me a lot.)

Sata Cables - Thought the red SATA cables looked ok with the RAM but perhaps your right. Black would be better.

Front Panel Connectors - It's interesting you mentioned these. I can't remember why I didn't do that in the first place. I'll have to do that soon. I agree it will look a lot cleaner.

CPU Cooler - This cooler has been pretty good for me but its a bit loud. I've been thinking of getting an H60 for a replacement.

6 Pin Extensions - I actually had a kit for all the cables to have individually sleeved extentions but then the 24 pin had to be RMA'd so I sent them all back. Other issue with them was there was almost zero space behind the motherboard tray. They were extremely hard to hide.

Window Replacement - I agree. Hate the fan grills. Looking for parts. :)

Keyboard & Mouse - What's wrong with my peripherals? :p:cool:

1. The Corsair Fans have been pretty good. I wanted a balance between performance and noise. So after watching a few videos from Linus I decided these did just that.

2. The desk is from Staples. The brand is Z-Line - Gemini I believe. Mine is pretty old so it shows quite a bit of wear. (Currently looking for a replacement.)

Love your build. I have the same case with the side window. Im wondering doe about the rubber things on the cable management holes. You had to buy them extra right? mine doesn't have them.

Yes I had to buy them. They can be purchased directly from Corsair but I got mine from Performance-PCs.com for cheaper.

Here is the link: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=31929

After using what I needed I sold off the extra.

  • 3 months later...

Small update to my rig. Upgraded to a Corsair H60 CPU Cooler. I was looking for something quieter and wanted to try one of these all in one units.

Made an inside cover to limit dust.

Also working on the best way to replace the existing window. May have to try my skills with a dremel.
