Ok I currently have a single 290x twin frozr 4g, and I'm looking to move from 1080p. Heres the questions. Should i pick up a 295x and run it in trifire and get a 4k monitor, or pick up another twin frozr and do 1440p at 120? If option 2 my motherboard does have a space in between the cards and my case is a nzxt 820. Would i need to be concerned with heat on those two cards and need to put them on water?

I think all 295x2 are water cooled. Someone second this?

the main question is thou

what CPU and mobo do you have?

@roop182

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

If i went the 295x with the 290x in trifire. The only option i could see would be 4k, but is it even that good right now?

the 290X will struggle with 4K even with 3 GPUs

the fps range at 4K maxed out is hovering at 30-40 fps

FreeSync like G-Sync will reduce the stutter or tearing occurrence

June is a few month away

i say wait and see how the 390X performs before buying

3x 290x won't struggle at 4k... Maybe with 8x MSAA on the most demanding games, but more than 2x MSAA is redundant imo.

@roop182 I'd say if you really want 144Hz go 1440p, if not, go 4k. I have 4k and think it's one of the best things you can do to increase the overall gaming experience.

About the heat, it shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you have that 295x2 radiator taking a lot of the heat out of your case and you have very good ventilation.

Well my new concern would be my PSU for the 295x and 290x tri fire. I have a corsair 1kw gold. And those cards draw a little over 1k from what I read.

single 290X will draw up to 300Watts under normal situation

R9 295x2 draw up to 470 watts or 500 watts

so you actually need 800 watts for the GPU alone

your 12 volt rail should provide that crazy amount of power to be on the safe side

otherwise you will need a new PSU

Well would the 1000 war be enough for a big rig, or will I need to pick up another one with more juice? So sorry many questions this one was my 2nd build.

Would probably work with the 3 way crossfire setup, but it would be very close. I'd recommend just doing two-way crossfire as it should be fine for most things as long as you don't plan on completely maxing out the newest AAA titles at 4k 60+ fps.

Well if I I did the crossfire setup I would just do 1440p. My only concern was the heat but I think I have enough airflow. The single 290x under a full hits 78 fans on auto.

AMD says even at 95c they're fine, but I don't like my 290 to go above ~85. If you get another it'll definitely go up, but you could consider getting a kraken G10 and H50 for the top card if you wanted.

P.S. quote people so they get notified when you respond
