The first question is are you going to use them for work, if so I think that you should defenetly buy them and bite the bullet they will pay for themselves

If they are not work and you cant afford then there are other programs but nothing that is equivalent, there are always torrents.

Gimp isn't bad for an alternative.

Premiere, there is vegas, and some others too.

After effects is kind of in it's own court...

If you need them, try finding a CS6 copy, only one payment. I use CS6 for my home machines at least.

It's against CoC to be pushing/recommending illegal software.

The projects never end in my line of work.

Well... first off you don't "avoid" piracy... you just don't do it.

There are some very good recommendations in this thread already. What do you need it for if not work?

Either GIMP or Paint.NET

You can find either GIMP by googling it, and to find Paint.Net google "Paint DOT net" and it will take you to their pages, just don't download them from CNet or Sourceforge because those downloads commonly include unwanted bloatware.

Downloading programs from CNet is not a good idea, as they will commonly include unwanted, and sometimes dangerous bloatware... The more you know.
