I have been losing disk space every day for the past 4 months or so.  My 120gb SSD is my bootdrive and I have not installed anything recently, so where is my disk space going?

My mechanical drive has my music, videos, games, downloads, big programs, etc.  The disk space on this drive does not changed unless I install or download something.

For a long time I was around 45gb disk space remaining, which seems accurate.  Then these past 4 months it has started to dip.  Some days it would fluctuate, where it would it be 21gb, then the next day it would go up 23.5gb.  Yesterday it was 2.31gb, then it was 1.5gb this morning, now it's 0.

Run WinDirStat and look around for stuff that you can delete.

It's really helpful to see a visual reconstruction of what the files on the SSD look like, for reference I use a 60GB SSD for my OS and several other programs, by using this I was able to figure out what files were taking up the space on the SSD to clear up 10GB.

I have this issue aswel, I've found my downloads folder and temp Internet files have had 5 or 6 gig in them at time for some odd reason,

I've also noticed that even though I have programs installed on the mechanical drive, some data from those programs seems to auto save to the C: drive. So it might be worth checking there also,

I got so fed up with it in the end, I formatted the drive and re-installed windows.

After installing 13 Windows updates and deleting 5.21gb of old updates through Disk Cleanup, I am up to 6.58gb.  This is still very low.

I used powershell and I have 36 restore points from 2015, 3 from 2014, and 2 from 2013.  Could these be eating up a lot of space?

Right but where can I see the amount of space being taken up?

i use 3rd party programs like TuneUp Utill

it can tell me how much the restore points take up space and if i want to clean them

  • 4 weeks later...

Well I was hovering around 7gb remaining on my SSD.  It would still fluctuate.

Half an hour ago I had 2gb.  Was watching a movie then I check my C:\ I have 58.7gb...  Looks like Windows deleted every restore point without asking me.  Never seen that happen before.

If you change the % allowed for restore points, windows will go and delete old restore points beyond that amount, either in the background or on the next shutdown.

I didn't actually delete any restore points like I said I would, two posts above.

Windows deleted every single one of them without me touching any settings.
