Hey I'm trying to advice my brother for upgrading his PC.

He wants to go with AMD since he has a lot of spare parts and i'm not extremely familiar with it...

Would that make a good ''core''. His budget is pretty limited. A bit under 500$ CAN.

EDIT: By core I mean the 3 principal parts :P

"Core"? Do you mean CPU?

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

Spare parts can get obsolete pretty fast, and anything that's not a motherboard can usually be used by modern Intel cpu's as well (depending on how recent his parts are)

CPU I7 - 4720HQ RAM 2 x 8GB • GPU Nvidia GTX 850M Storage 250GB 850 EVO - 1TB Seagate Hybrid
Keyboard CM Storm QuickFire Rapid-I (MX brown) & Pok3r (MX clear) • Mouse Logitech G502 • Sound Audio-Technica ATH-M50X • OS Windows 10 Pro - Linux Arch
Storage Asustor AS7004T

No sry I meant, the principal parts.

Then no. The motherboard is too expensive for that cpu, the gpu is overpriced (you can get a faster R9 280x for cheaper). Again, what is this for?

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

It's for gaming, sry I kinda thought it was obvious but it's not of course ^^

I choosed that motherboard cause he want something decent for the future and he also want crossfire.

He also said that he wanted to get a third screen eventually. I'm surprised that the r9 280x does better than the r9 285. Oh and btw does the ''x'' stands for OCed or OCable?

Crossfire is going to be terribly bottlenecked by the 6300. You should really consider getting a core i5 and a cheaper motherboard. The x doesn't really stand for anything, it just means it's better than the 280 (amd -.-). The 285 is a sobstitute to the 280, but the current price for it is too high.
