1,995 dollar raspberry pi supercomputer

babadoctor

Hey guys

I was wondering what your opinion on making a 2,000 dollar supercomputer out of 57 raspberry pi 2's to bitcoin mine would be? Is this a really really bad idea or... The tutorial i was planning on using to make it a supercomputer was this:

and just hook them all up

ah i really dont want to post this now because you guys are going to laugh at this idea

Any investment in mining is a waste at this point in the game.

You missed the boat.

It's dumb and a waste of money. There's no way he's going to be able to daisychain 57 pi's and get any sort of acceptable result.

Plus, MINING IS DEAD.

If you'd have asked me this 3 or 4 years ago, I'd say buy a miner and you could do it...

Now? There's people with hundreds of miner boxes.

57 Pi's still slower than a i5 4690K

Why?

Why?

Raspberry Pi is not a powerful computing platform.

It's very good at running scripted code... but not doing real calculation.

-snip-

I've seen tons of ambitious kids wanting to build pi SC's... All I can say is that it's a tremendous waste of money and has basically no usefulness

I liked the video, even though there is no practical use for this since a single Xeon is between 5-50x more powerful than a  single pi, not to mention the cost of  switches and power. Worst of all pi's don't have ecc ram (yet).
