I'm helping a friend build his first gaming rig. I'm throwing some of my old pieces his way such as my asrock z87 fatality killer, a case, and power supply.

With no more than $600 CND, what would be the best configuration keeping in mind the LGA 1150 socket of the z87?

So far I was lining up for 16 gigs of mushkin blackline enhanced (around $160 on newegg.ca), a gtx 750ti (around $150), a 1TB wd hard drive ($60) and the rest on the processor.

i5-4440 (4460 if you have the bios update), and get 8GB ram instead of 16 then spend the money saved on a better GPU.

Yeah 16gb is unnecessary

These guys know what they're saying. You should listen to them.

Is this sarcasm? Also, if you need to keep the 16 gigs, get the I3. The hyper threading should help it perform similarly to a quad core without it.

Nope, it was a completely honest answer. It wasn't sarcasm.
