When I am playing games, for some reason, after about a minute of playing, the GPU usage will drop from 85%-100% to 50%-60%. This causes a significant drop in the FPS, making some games unplayable. It is not limited to 1 or 2 games, it happens in every one I've tried. When playing with the reduced GPU usage, sometimes the usage will spike back up to normal levels, but it is only for a moment, as it drops back down right after.

Thinking that this might actually be an issue with the games, today I picked up a second Radeon HD 7950 to use in Crossfire with the one I already had. When using the cards in Crossfire, the GPU usage will not even go above 40%.

This is really bothering me and making me think that I will have to waste more money on completely different GPUs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is usually due to a bottleneck. If your CPU is at 100% and the GPU isn't, then your CPU isn't man enough for the job.

CPU - Intel Core i5 10600K @ 5GHz @ 1.35v + EK Custom Loop (Evo Supremacy Block, 240mm Copper Radiator, Res/Pump Combo, Mayhem Soft Tubing and Fluid) - GPU - Gigabyte G1 GeForce GTX 1070 - RAM - 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB @ 3200MHz - Mobo - Asus Z490-A Prime - SSD - Samsung 850 120GB - HDD - 2TB WD Black - PSU - EVGA G2 650W Gold - Case - Corsair 680X RGB White with 6 x Corsair LL120 Fans.

What are your system specs, powersupply included also please!  :)

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 (x2)

PSU: EVGA Supernova 850 B2

Could be the VRMs on the 7950?  What kind of temps are you getting?

The hotter of the 2 cards is reaching 76 C

The CPU is not hitting 100%
