I am going to build an HTPC, which will have the ability to play games at 4K, that's the reason why I am going with SLIed 970s (the short ITX version from asus, yeah, i know about the VRAM, not sure about that), but is also an quiet HTPC, which will play Blurays, DVDs, Musik, etc

The case will be an Fractal Design Node 605, because I already have it, memory, HDD,  SSD and power supply are reused parts, too.

I have opened the build log, to get some input from you and maybe some tips and helps.

The parts are already ordered and will arrive soon, the first task is going to fit an ATX motherboard and the slim optical drive, which will need some modding, I think...

Maybe I am going to paint the case, not sure yet...

the parts arrived today, and I started building instantly :D

I had quiet some trouble, the internal opticaal drive didn't fit, because the internal connections for the power switch and HDD LED were in its way :(

the SSD did not work, because it was incompatible :/
but I found another one ...

and the post to mount M.2 SSDs was already broken on arrival

but for now, the system is build complete and I am just installing the OS ;)

photos are on their way :D

Oh, that's horrible =/

Nice and compact PC! Which games do you want to run on this in 4K, btw?

And failing to act, for fear of the risk, is no different than a living death. No matter what world you’re in.

@Phorlorn

I am not sure, every game, that is going to work ;)

Skyrim (not modded)

Deus Ex Human Revolution (maybe in Full-HD and 3D, since the TV is capable of that)

Mass Effect 1,2,3

Crysis 2

Crysis 3 (Full-HD)

Max Payne 3

maybe I am going to replace the blue Power-LED with another (maybe red) one, but it sits on a PCB for switch, LED and fan-controller, not so sure about that yet...

And I am looking for an SSD for this build, 2,5" or M.2, but M.2 only with PCI-E ones (don't know, if this works with SLI)

can somebody suggest some SSDs? I prefer the Intel 730 Series, but maybe you know a better one :)

Huh, I am just really curious about settings you will end up using. It should all be around "high" preset, without anti-aliasing, but I'm not sure : )

Crucial MX100 series as a budget option, and Samsung 850 EVO as high-performance one

I used Intel 520 series SSD for a couple of years by myself and it's okay, forgetting the price

yeah, the Samsung Drives... I have a 1TB 840Evo in my laptop, it ... isn't that good

I really do not trust Samsung products, after seeing TVs, some SSDs, tablets, phones ^^

and some PCI-E SSDs for the M.2 slot? I don't know much about this new connector, I don't want to buy something wrong ...

I've read about an Samsung XP941, but it is very very expensive ... And I don't think, that 1150 can use it's speed.
Am I save, or is an PCI-E SSD going to interfere with SLI? :/
Like I said, this type of SSD is new for me, but I think M.2 SSDs are pretty neat ;)

With very simple soldering skill that should be a very simple modification.

I always go Samsung EVO for my ssd's but that's just my preference :)

Samsung makes the most relaible drives I think...

Their TVs, well honestly everyone is spying on you if that's what you are refering to.

THeir phones and tablets are pretty nice.

A PCI-E SSD will be fine.

M.2 has limited cooling and is made for like laptops and tablets.
