Im guessing the above would solve my problem. It's a PCI eSATA card. 19.99 at a local shop. So not bad cost wise. Then I go eSATA enclosure?

stop even better you don't need that adapter

This looks pretty + function

Sorry, not sure if I mentioned. I have a couple drives. So this wouldn't work ideally :(

I have a few sources locally for actually the mediasonic one I posted a few back, 4 bay as well for expansion or RAID capabilities. Just need this PCI card and I "think" that would be my cheapest/fastest solution.

I have a PC. It has USB ports. It has SAS/SATA connectors, but ONLY accepts 2.5" drives. All of your drives are 3.5". If I were a solution to this problem, what am I?

As you can tell, I have an issue with a PC I am looking to utilize. Ask questions if that helps provide your answer...

Thanks!

Hey cyphon21,

One way is to look into what you can do with the drive bays. Can you remove them? This way you would be able to fit the drive you would like.
Another way is, as the guys said, PCIe adapter with a USB3.0 connection. If you are using this as a NAS and media center, the speeds should be fine with such connection.
Enclosures and docking stations are also options.
The most costly thing would be getting compatible 2.5" drives, transferring the data to them and using the 3.5" drives as backups.

WD VelociRaptor drives are performance drives that come with a 3.5" mounting frame attached to the drive for vibration reduction and cooling purposes and the drive itself is a bit thicker than a regular 2.5" drive. I wouldn't recommend removing it.

So I'm most likely picking up the Mediasonic enclosure I posted a few back. It's also a RAID version, so if I want that functionality it's there.

I'm going to "most" likely put a PCI to USB 3 card in the server to accomodate this new enclosure and I can take advantage of some quicker speeds for transfers.

Wish me luck! I hope this solution works the best. It's around $100 after all said and done, so that's where I wanted my budget to be to add this.

Ok, so I picked up the mediasonic enclosure. Which through the USB 2.0 onboard I could test it worked perfectly.

Now move on to eSATA, I bought a Vantec 4 port SATA + eSATA controller PCIe. Installed it in the x3650 M2, and I can install the drivers etc no problem. BIOS is showing it sees the device drivers etc, but it says "device not found"...

I can't seem to get the server to actually recognize the device itself. Any suggestions here?

edit: This is the device I picked up: Doesn't say Server 2012, but it does have a review on Amazon saying they were using it with Server 2012.

edit again: Solved! Was due to jumpers not being setup correctly to use the eSATA ports on the PCIe card. All is well now!
