It look fine but if you are planning to max out bf4 or titanfall then i would suggest a 290 instead.

Getting 280X instead of SSD might be a good idea :)

See what video cards are for sale online in your area. I know I got a 280x for $180 new last year. Anyways, people are saying you need a 290 or more... You want to play your games on occasion. Does it matter to you if you have to lower a few settings? If not, then stick with the 280x. It will last 1080p for a good while.

Also, an ssd is probably one of the best upgrades you can do to speed up your computer overall. Once you go SSD, you will die a little on the inside when you use a HDD computer. Tread with caution into the SSD market: there's no going back.

Only improvement I can see is the i3 to an i5 really. Far Cry 4 requires a quad core just to play the game. Hopefully, this is not the start of a trend, but with ubisoft games at least, I think we can extrapolate to say that some games will be exclusively available to quad core+ CPUs. Entirely your choice though :)

SSD is not smart choice in budget build, your PC will boost faster and loading times will be shorter, I have only HHD in my fairly high end PC and loading times are still very good and who cares about boot speed, you start your PC only once a day anyway, spending money on GPU is much better idea IMO.

The boot speed im not too fussed about, Like you said you turn a PC on once a day anyway, Sow what GPU could I invest in instead of the R9 280?

Yeah I understand that, SSDs are not for budget builds. SSDs though are not only about boot time, but overall computer responsiveness. If you haven't used an SSD, you wouldn't notice that a HDD based computer has slower response times than the SSD computer. I've been using an SSD in my computer for around a year now, and it's still not slowing down (referencing boot time and how programs initialize.

If I had a $600 budget, I'd spend more on the GPU. But once I got some more money I'd immediate grab an SSD. The computer feels much more responsive with every program opening (and ready to use) almost instantly. Also, the computer never slows down as the day progresses. I'm not sure why or if the SSD is what changes that, but my theory is that because the paging file is on the SSD, paged data is accessed 7x faster than normal, which keeps "hanging up" from happening.

with an i3?

Yeah the i3 4160 pack quite a punch it can keep up even with a 4690k with only a 4-7 fps difference in most game with a high end gpu like the 290.
