500$ Server Build

Go to solution Solved by Wtalk2,

This should run all that stuff perfectly as long as you don't have tons of people on the game servers at once.

Thoughts??

Hey everyone!

I'm planning on making a game server. I'd like to run a Minecraft, TF2, GMod, and Teamspeak server.

None of them would be open at the same time. Except for teamspeak. That would ALWAYS be up.

Meaning, I'd have only, for example, TF2 and Teamspeak open at once. Not all of them at once.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Some say I should just get an i3, but I feel like that wouldn't be the best. And 8 gigs of ram? ECC? I'm lost.

Leave your suggestions below!

Actually, I already have a harddrive, so we can take that out! That looks great.

Great!! I was really trying to drop that price below $500 without lowering performance or choosing cheap parts so that's great if you can avoid having to buy a new HDD :)

This is what id suggest for a server build,

I chose the FX 6300 since Servers are usually good with threads.

16Gb of ram since the RAM have been the most limiting factor for me when only using 8gb.

The gt 630 becouse it is cheap.

And a 240gb SSD since it would give a more fluid experience than a HDD.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor  ($94.88 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($67.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Team Elite Plus 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($106.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: PNY XLR8 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($89.34 @ Mwave)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GT 630 2GB Video Card  ($29.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: BitFenix Neos Black ATX Mid Tower Case  ($33.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $488.17
