Gtx 970 P-state lock results in high idle temps and performance decrease

Go to solution Solved by sgloux3470,

I would try a clean reinstall of the drivers.

So i was wondering if someone is having problems with high idle temps and low performance in games with their gtx 970 card? I had that problem and it was because of the P-state/Power state was locked to 2 by some reason. P-state or Power state can go from 8 to 0 and it controls you Clock and memory speeds. 8 is the lowest and 0 is the highest so when you are playing demanding games or doing other demanding things that requires alot of Power from your Graphics card your P-state should be 0 so you are getting the highest performance. And when not doing anything it should be 8 so your graphics card is going really cold. Sadly i dont know whats causing the graphics card to lock the P-state (in my case to 2) I dont know how  my card started to work normally it just did . So does anyone else Know whats causing this and knows how to fix it? you can check your P-state using Nvidia inspector http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/nvidia-inspector-download.html

i have 2 monitors

That is your problem. When you have multiple monitors connected on the same GPU, the graphics card looses a bit of it's power saving features as it powers, well 2 monitors with 2 refresh rates and content.

The only fix is a dedicated GPU per monitor. But then you'll gain extra heat from extra graphics cards.

So using 2 monitors locks the P-state?

Wait, are you complaining that it doesn't lower power state, or that it can't go full screen even under load?

The monitors wasnt the problem it was the drivers i reinstalled the drivers and it works perfect with 2 monitors now

I did best thing to do is just not over clock or use k-boost to lock voltages at maximum.
