I am from india and i need a new monitor for gaming(just offline gaming) and watching movies.I previously considered buying Asus VS247H which everyone recommended in this price range. It costs about 200$ here in India. But now i did a little research and found the LG 25UM65 for only 248$.

Is is worth 50$ ? It looks great in videos and the reviews are pretty nice too but is 21:9 really enjoyable ? And is my rig sufficient enough to play at playable framerate ?

Rest of the specs

Fx 8320

Asus m5a99fx

R9 280x

8gb ram.

Note: will upgrade when skylake comes out.

21:9 is worth if if you play simulators and you don't want 3 screens, for other games if it works it is ok but sometimes the UI is too far from centre.

And it shouldn't have big impact on performance.

i dont play any simulators, i mostly play fps games like far cry, metro etc

Be prepared to spend as much time on Wide Screen Gaming Forum getting the games to work properaly as you do playing the games -- especially in older titles -- if you go 21:9.

Also be prepared for the DPI to be as good as 1080p/1440p but cost multiple times as much because they're marketed as professional CAD development tools, not as consumer products. Imo you're better off spending half as much on 4K.

I have that monitor, I love it and I will never go back to 16:9 if I can help it. People say there are compatability issues but I have not run into anything that flawless widescreen couldn't fix in 2 seconds. Great little app. Even then I never have to use it, only older games.

Personally I love the 21:9 aspect ratio monitor, but I wouldnt want that 25 inch one, it feel too small to me since while the "number" is 25 inch, due to it ultra wide spec it actually pretty small. On the other hand the LG 29UM65 feel much better.

But that just my personally opinion, if you have any store near you that have the 25 inch one on display then go there and stand infront of it for a while, see if you like it or not.

i got this reply on some other forum

"The 24" will get you a lot more actual screen space due to the less "efficient" aspect ratio of a 21:9. A 34" 21:9 monitor has the same area for 16:9 content as a 27" 16:9 display.

A 25" 21:9 would be like a 19" monitor for 16:9 content. "

Does that mean I'll be playing on a 19inch monitor???

Yup, that exactly what I mean when I said if you go for 21:9 you should get the 29 inch instead of the 25 inch. For a 25 inch 21:9, the "height" of the monitor is equivalent to that of a 19 inch monitor but alot wider. A 29 inch 21:9 have the height equivalent to that of a 22-23 inch normal 16:9 monitor and is much better than the 25 inch. Watch this video where Linus show how the 34 inch 21:9 will show the height of a 27 inch 16:9.

save up another 100$ and get the lg 29um67 - 29" 21:9 IPS freesync 75hz - for 400$

you have about a week or two before its available everywhere

... cuz whats the point in getting something thats garbage and keep dreaming how one day you will enjoy yourself on a GOOD gaming monitor?

25" 21:9 is too small, and anything below 27" for 16:9 IS actually also too small, you should avoid that
