SteamOS is made for living room PCs. To turn PCs into pseudo consoles and make them easy to navigate with a controller, while providing and out of the box gaming experience.

If you are using your pc as a full fledged desktop and want to try Linux then chose one of the other Linux distros which are designed for desktop use.
