Hi guys

I am going to purchase a Fractal Design Define R5 within the next week.

I cant decide between getting the windowed or non-windowed version of the case .What I want to know is will the non-windowed version reduce sound noticeably more than the windowed version? Also how does the non-windowed version look,I have seen pictures but does it still look nice and sleek or does the moduvent just make it look wrong?

Basically if R5 owners tell me that the non-windowed version still looks great even with the moduvent then I will probably take that but if not then I will take the windowed version .In the pictures I have seen the side moduvent really sticks out and it really does not fit in but that is only pictures so that is is why I am asking you guys to please help me out  :) .

To sum up:

Is the non-windowed version noticeably quieter than the windowed version?

Does the non-windowed version still have a nice look even with the side moduvent?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

snip

as with all cases, the window will affect sound dampening due to the lack of foam and the window being thinner than metal, but not really that noticeably louder. also you can buy a windowed panel.

and to me the moduvent looks fine on it.

Cool ,thanks for the reply

Just something off topic ,I will be replacing and adding Corsair SP and AF series fans ,for the two front intakes should I get AF140 High Performance edition fans or the quiet edition fans? The reason I am thinking of high performance is the Define R5 comes with a 3 speed fan controller so would it be more beneficial to take the high performance fans and just run them at the lowest fan speed thus reducing the rpms and noise but then still have the option for high airflow if needed or is it just stupid not to take the quiet edition fans with this case?

Don't get corsair fans for quiet.

What would be the best fans to consider?I know noctua fans are great but they are more than double the price of any other fan (I live in South Africa so there is only one retailer selling Noctua fans).

What fans would you recommend for performance and silence ?

Cooler Master has a line of very good "Silencio Fans" that seem to get quite good reviews, check out how much they cost near you

also there is a company called be quiet! that specialise in making noise optimised fans like noctua, but might be cheaper

Thanks for all the advice!

I ended up purchasing two bitfenix spectre pro 140mm pwm fans and a corsair sp 120 quiet edition fan for my cpu heatsink ,with the way the fans mount on my heatsink I would not have been able to use the bitfenix fans .I would have loved to get Noctua fans but it just is to expensive and there are no be quiet products in my country.I am probably going to run the two bitfenix fans as front intakes and then I will move the one included 140mm fan to bottom intake and then use the fan controller or my motherboard to lower the fan speeds .I will then leave the second included 140mm as rear exhaust .I hope this will work for keeping the pc very quiet but still having good airflow. The case and fans should arrive within the next 2 days so will see how everything compares to my current case and fans.
