I just wanted to make a statement saying how I believe the ubisoft is undoubtedly gimping their pc games on purpose, and anyone who has tried Rogue on pc will know why. The game has the same graphical fidelity of black flag, and we all know that black flag with quite difficult to run even on powerful hardware. Checking cpu gpu utilization my 4790k is almost always maxed out on black flag, causing it to dip below 60fps quite frequently. On top of keeping my gpu running hard at around 80% while it's overclocked to 1200mhz. Not the easiest game to run, often dipping into the 40's on my system while in the larger cities.

Now switch of to Rogue with the game engine and graphics and it a completely different story I can't begin to understand. My cpu usage stays around 30% on my first core all others are basically idle or <10% and the gpu sits around 30-50% but that is at a downclocked 876 mhz. So with the same graphics the game demands less than half the horsepower to run flawlessly. There is no possibly way black flag was not purposely sabotaged to make the console counterparts look better in my mind after seeing this. The worst part is I can't see how that helps ubisoft in any way. I am so frustrated with them.

They want you to have the same "cinematic experience" like on the console going above 30 fps is ruining the "cinematic" feels of the game so they have to gimp the pc version. Don't worry they are ubisolf they absolutely know what they are doing just look at all of their new game launch  :D

In ac:bf there are a couple of specific settings that will drive your performance into the ground. However I noticed they make almost no difference in visual quality. With those off I get good framerates even at 4k. Rogue must have those out of the equation. It still looks pretty much as good, so you wouldn't notice the difference.

Which settings would you be speaking off? In black flag I had AA set to smaa vs rogues fxaa which is about the same performance impact. Other than that and physX I can't really tell the difference and physX was situational.

DOF is one of them, can't remember if there were any others and right now i can't check. May update.

DOF is one of those things that provides almost no impact... Still whatever graphical difference that might be there... I can't imagine that the black flag team had no idea the performance cost of each setting enabled. Now that rogue is out and runs so well it's clear there is no excuse for what happened with black flag, even months later with freedom cry the performance was completely crap.

Yeah even if there are some sort of invisible graphic features missing there is no explanation for cpu usage being cut by well over half. You know they totally gimped black flag. lol

hmm, thats pretty weird cause I have same cpu as you and 970 and I'm getting pretty much constant 60fps at 1080p even in intense battles max out in blac flag, physics off. Did you add blac flag to D3Doverrrider? I was getting weird fps spikes and drops at vsync and horrible input lag when playing black flag with controller but when I added to d3doverrider the game is butter smooth. Try it it should help as that was the solution I have found to BF problems. Regards

d3doverrider? No what does that do?

It forces triple buffering and vsync. I don't know exactly what it does but it fixed my black flag and I tend to add (.exe) all my games to it right after install. I also have vsync enabled in game. I'm not sure but it seems to remove input lag for me when playing with controller as well as the mouse.
