what is the difference between those two? why can i only enable SMAA ?

Really depends on what the game implements.

Not all games use MSAA either, but FXAA/SMAA

 

I like SMAA, or SMAAx2, but if I have the grunt, I also do use 2x/4xMSAA if available and performance is still okay.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

i got two gtx 970 and i cant run 8x supersampling in cod advanced warfare :/ 4x is the max or i get stutters and lags
