My system shows a black screen and freezes when I play hitman Absolution and Max Payne 3. The games start normally and then at some point the screen just goes black and everything hangs up.

I have also played far cry 4 and tomb raider but those games worked smoothly. Any suggestions?

I have an intel core i5 4430, 8GB RAM, GTX 970

Check your temps for your hardware.  Make sure your video card drivers are updated and hell install them again in case these ones are corrupted in some fashion.  Search the net to see if people are having certain issues with these games you mentioned with the GTX 970.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Check your memory usage, keep an eye on it while you're gaming and see if it's maxing out, you could have a memory leak.

It does not appear to be an issue with RAM. I checked the RAM usage with MSI afterburner. It was around 5 gb used when the black screen appeared again.

Could it be a problem with my PSU. I have 650 watt PSU but it is a local brand. However, other GPU demanding games like far cry 4 run without a problem on the same PSU.

Any suggestions? My driver version is 347.52, is anyone aware of any bus in this version?

I actually meant system memory, sorry I should've said that. I'm having a similar-ish problem at the moment and a memory leak in system memory is the cause. Probably not what's causing your problem but it's worth a look.

Is your gpu overclocked?
Sounds like it's the drive crashing to me. I get this when i have to high an overclock...it doesn't do it in all games though just a few so i dial it down a bit.

It is an ASUS STRIX and it is only stock overclocked from the guys at ASUS.

Do you think I should reduce the clock speed to that of a reference model?

I was also talking about system memory. MSI Afterburner can monitor both, system memory and VRAM.

Reduce the overclock and see if it sorts it out. If it does then you may be able to ram as the gpu would not be performing the way it's meant to out of the box.

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong but i think i'm right.

If it manages to run at the referance model clocks then bump of the clock until you get as close as you can to the default clock speeds that it shipped with.

Do you actually manage to play these games before they crash/hang or is it doing it before you manage to actually get into the game play (past the main menu)

Does anyone has an idea about core parking. I made some changes using core parking manager and set the minimum CPU speed to 100%. The software does not has any "DEFAULT" button and im not sure what my prevoius settings were.

Just done a quick google search of core parking and it just basically seems the same as advanced power options in control panel.

I you want it back to normal uninstall the program then go to control panel/power options and put it to balanced.

Then check the advanced options and make sure max processor state is 100% and minimum is 5% (that's what mine is and that's default.)

I did a fresh re-install of the operating system and that solved the problem.

Guess some software or driver might have been corrupted that was causing this issue.

Anyways thanks for the help everyone

Very happy you got it sorted, well in :)
