I have no idea how to do this question...

it's something to do with connected rates of change. Perhaps splitting the distance travels is x differentiating x with respect to time will get me :

 

dx/dt = Velocity of Raphael. 

 

doing a similar thing for the shadow I will get naming the distance from the lamp the end of the shadow is as s: 

 

ds/dt = V of shadow. 

 

I have no idea where to go from here. Any help would be nice :D

Ah, this is easy :D

It's mainly geometry.

 

The two triangles are similar, and the shadow moves along a bigger distance than he does in the same time.

 

Still need more help?

PS: it's half the height of the lamp

Thanks, I worked it out in the end, just mine was more convoluted way of working it out, it doesn't really help when you don't visualise the problem.
