Hi guys,

a friend of mine wants an new PC. Currently he has a pc with an amd 1100t + amd 6950. He's going to give this pc to his little brother. So he needs a new one.

He wants to spend about 1800-2000€ and everything will be purchased at www.alternate.de.

He uses this PC for gaming and browsing the interwebs. He Plays all kinds of games Dota, FPS, strategy......

Right now he uses 2*1920*1080 monitors but he will go 4k + 1*1920*1080.

Monitors are not included in the budget and will be purchased a little later.

He needs a new copy of windows7 but no other peripherals.

He is not comfortable with overclocking. I offered to do it for him but he refused.

So i picked these parts for him. He hasn't ordered yet.

Should i go with some faster memory?

How about the motherboard.

if he's only gaming,

get the i5 4690 (non k)

no overclock then there isn't a point of a Z97 board.

get windows 7 on g2a

get an r9 290/290x in crossfire for a cheaper price, or stick to gtx 980 but in sli.

memory speed is fine

How big is the psu. I would personally go for dual 970s and ditch the 4790k for a non k part because it is cheaper. Or you could do the space heater thing like me and go for 290s for even cheaper. And for the extra 0.5GB Functional framebuffer.

@Warpheus

For a 4K Monitor you will need 2 x GTX 980's to get good framerates. The Motherboard you selected doesn't support SLI.

You would need something like the Gigabyte Z97 SLI board for that.

https://www.alternate.de/GIGABYTE/GA-Z97X-SLI-Mainboard/html/product/1139645?tk=7&lk=8919

You can go with an i5 4690K and 8GB Ram if it is just a gaming pc.

This is a much better psu and it will have enough power for a 2nd GTX 980.

https://www.alternate.de/EVGA/SuperNOVA-750-G2-Netzteil/html/product/1131625?tk=7&lk=8513

I would get the Gigabyte card over the EVGA

Your Friend will get better value with the R9 290X cards if He doesn't have a preference for Nvidia.

That's a very nice list :D

Just:

 - Different, better mobo for possible future OC'ing, and i think it doesn't support SLI, which you'll need for 4k gaming

- Memory is fine

- Does he really need that expensive case? What about R4?

- What other PSU's are in that price range O.o Also, go with 850W 80+Gold PSU (you could do with less, but better safe than sorry) :D

2*GTX980 is well over 2000€

and 2*290x will heat up the place ^^

Oh well.... I guess I'm stuck with it...

Get this CPU instead: https://www.alternate.de/Intel®/Xeon®-Prozessor-E3-1231V3-CPU/html/product/1129073?event=search

Get this Mobo: https://www.alternate.de/ASUS/Z97-PRO-GAMER-Mainboard/html/p

Get 2x this GPU: https://www.alternate.de/EVGA/GeForce-GTX-970-ACX-2-0-SuperClocked-Grafikkarte/html/product/1185391?event=search

Also, you don't need 16gbs of RAM. 8gbs will be plenty. Save a bit of money with that.

an ASUS H97-PLUS motherboard will do.

Get an non-reference design for the 290x, you'll be fine with the heat. or get 2 970's from EVGA or Gigabyte.

What's the benefit of this cpu over the 4690?

Are 2*970s capebale of driving a 4k monitor? *cough* *ramgate*

This CPU has Hyper Threading, which will give him a bit of a boost. And it really doesn't cost that much.

Also, no, 2x970 won't drive 4k. I must have mistaken this topic for another one, as I was sure that you said "he'll not go 4k". You'll need 2x980 for that.......

.... but be assured, even 2x980 is not enough. Tell him to give up on 4k, and wait 2~3 years.
