Hi,

I love the concept of the Metro UI but I feel it could be way better if it were more customizable. Do you guys know any softwares that would allow to change the size and choose the icons, to choose the background? I'm also looking for a softwares to make windows in general look nicer. Any recommendations?

Have a great day.

Not being able to change those is the biggest problem in metro, and unfortunately there's no way to fix that that I know of.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Umm, you can change the background in Windows 8.1, and there are 4 different sizes for the icons from smaller than previous desktop icons, to taking up damn near a tenth of the screen.

So what other customizations are you looking to make?

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

You can change the metro UI background? How? And most of my programs are limited to two sizes. For example, I can't get firefox to be bigger than medium. I would also like to be able to choose the pictures of the icons.

Yeah. It feels half-done. And I know there are some softwares that allows this. I just don't recall any.

It would be extremely helpful for you to visit the how-to section of Windows.com if you don't know some of this stuff. 15 minutes will save you 15% of a headache or more.

When some programs cant be a certain size, its because the developer of the program (Mozilla in this instance) has not included it in their code. This could be as simple as it not being up to date, or this could be as dickish as them purposely not including it.

You can customise most of it in Windows itself as JefferyD90 pointed out.

On top of that you can use software like Stardocks Start8 & ModernMix to customise further.

They also have a new Start10 for Windows 10 if you like the classic Windows 7 menu.

Thats pretty cool, you can do this to some extent anyway - but this is cleaner. Nice one to know about

P.S The way im talking about is that Win 8.1 allows custom backgrounds and resizing icons to small .

You can also edit the ico by going to the file location and right clicking it and change the icon, and then pin it to Start.

The downside with this is that you still get a colored box around the image.
