Soo ... I was planning to build a freon cooled PC for my first build .

I was wondering , is that even possible ??.

Only major problem seems to be condensation and power.

I was thinking of giving the cooling system completely independent power supply..

Hopefully that may fix the hunger for power ..

To counter condensation, I was thinking of insulating the whole case from the inside and make it air tight, so that no condensation will take place..

Of course there can be more elegant ways to do it.. That's why I need you guyz !

There can be two ways to do this..

1. basically making the whole case a refrigerator.

2. The more elegant way is to create loop like the one used in water cooling systems, and pass freon gas through the loop..

And use foam to cover all the tubing to prevent condensation. ( that's what they do in AC's to prevent condensation)

The first method seems dangerous...

I don't think it will be good enough to insulate the case from the inside.

And I would also have to find a way to make the case airtight .

In second case , the freon will pass like water through the tube and wrapping up the tubes in foam well prevent condensation... [ hopefully ]

What do you guyz think ?

Is it a good idea ??

Has anyone tried it before ?

Do you have any other method in mind to use freons for cooling ??

I was very confused , as towhere should I post this thread, since freon works as gas and liquid at the same time ... Lol

Yeah this pretty much^ I have never heard of this being done. If you want that much extreme cooling, just get a phasechange unit. Those things always keep your cpu at sub ambient temps and are generally insane.

What about the change in pressure when the Freon gas changes temperature? That will crack tubes and fittings and could be a potential leak hazard?

Also, where would you get Chlorofluorocarbon (Freon) from?!

You can do it, read some physics books 1st and differential equations. Glhf

^^^^^ I could not find a lot on the internet about it and everything is fairly vague on the subject. This would be cool if you could do it though.

really you got the basic idea down. you need to have the compressor outside the case it makes a lot of heat. the internet is full of math... you wont find a how to :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_equation this is a idea of some of the math involved.

some info about the gases you're about to use (their are many) http://www2.dupont.com/Refrigerants/en_US/assets/downloads/k05736_Freon22_thermo_prop.pdf

also check out the MSDS http://www.refrigerants.com/msds/r134a.pdf

BE SAFE!!!!

Ive studied thermodynamics and I have the basic idea of how to do it ...:)

I just wanted to if this is possible and if anyone on ltt had done something like that .. Also this is basically a phase change cooler but much more economic :D ..

Phase change cooler costs almost as much as the PC itself ..

good man, the 1st law of thermodynamics is never to talk about thermodynamics. it is 100% doable, i'm not sure someone has but, i would think they have.  ahhhhh here we go.

Give us a build log man!

. Id love to ..

But given the amount of money I have .. It would take me 5 or more years yo start the project.. Lol...

I don't wanna build my dream machine using my parent's money :)
