...not for a gamer...that's where people gets misleading...games ALWAYS favor STRONG CPU THREADS and they will only run as fast as your fastest processing core...and most games use around 4 to 8 threads...with only 1 or 2 ''main'' threads...so the games will not run noticeably faster with more CPU threads available beyond 6 to 8 threads...so it's VERY LIKELY (read: ''it's a given'') that for a GAMING PURPOSE the next gen intel quad-core chip (wheter it's broadwell or skylake or whatever stupid name they choose to call it) will have greater IPC and therefore will be able to run games better than even a i7-5960X...it's always been that way and will always be...X99 is simply not worth it for gaming even when ''future-proofing'' comes into play...cause the next line of CPU's will outperform them even with only 4 cores they will...a ''skylake core i5'' will be a better gaming chip than the i7-5960X.

...I'm talking current gen 5930k and not some rumoured skylake chip.

And read my post, I said get a z97 if he's not into production work.

i did read and i agree...also unless a person wants to run 3 graphics cards or more which just about nobody wants to do anyways the extra pcie lanes from the 5930K will prove to be completely useless to most therefore the i7-5820K is by far a much better CPU choice for 95%+ of the users out there...just saying..

Sorry I caused a flame war :x

no flamewars everything is cool and relax here...point is: if you're only going to game and stream and stuff like that the i7-4790K is all you need and is in fact somewhat overkill already and will last you a while.

Well I'll definitely get the i7-4970k, but how's your build? I see your 4770k and the ram and everything. I know the processors are about the same except clock speeds so you basically have an idea of what a 4970k is like

it's a very strong processor, that's why i can recmmend it.

wrong :)

AMD 8 cores are REAL 8 cores.

How it performs does not matter, they still have 8 real cores on the die.

No, they aren't. Amd cpus are 4 modules with 2 cores. The cores share the same integer and instruction processor therefore they aren't 8 cores. They are 2 "FULL CORE"(module) split in half. Though technically not even that. So they are not 8 "cores". Its basically trying to be hyper threading on a physical level, but fails significantly in performance since the 2 cores are trying to feed the one integer and instruction decoder.

AMD may be better for streaming but intel will always win in game performance.

Sandy bridge and later i7 chips beat ALL AMD CPUs for livestreaming, especially if overclocked. You would need a CPU from AMD past 6GHz to beat a 4.2GHz (stock 4790K with turbo boost) i7 CPU as far as x264 livestreaming is concerned.

i5s however, are a different story.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

THE INFORMATION GUIDES: SLI INFORMATION || vRAM INFORMATION || MOBILE i7 CPU INFORMATION || Maybe more someday

I mean from price to performance of it versus and i5.. No shit an i7 reks everything lel
