Bitlocked HDD

Hi, 

I have a hard drive with about 15 years of family photos on it, somehow it has become blocked this is strange due to the fact that i don't have bitlocker on this current installation of windows, its also specifies that the code must be 48 digits long which i have never seen before has anyone else encountered this before or knows what to do as these photos are important to me.
