Why suggest getting the i5-4440 when it wouldnt make much difference?

are you trolling? the core i5-4440 is a MUCH stronger CPU than ANY AMD CPU's when it comes to gaming...google some gaming benchmarks and see for yourself...

isnt that exaclty what i've just said?

...gaming wise the Phenom 6 and FX are pretty much the same performance.

Perhaps based on the fact their so similar and that you don't have the budget for a massive system overhaul, investing in a good CPU cooler such as a Corsair Hydro Series H75 or better. To allow you to overclock to the 4Ghz mark.

You may see better performance increase per ... unit of currency, then you can always use the cooler in future if you do buy a new CPU to overclock it.

I cant find much info, The only info i have found says they trade blows,

In games that only use one core the 4440 is about 50-90% more powerful

In games that use 4 cores the 4440 is about 10-40% more powerful

In games that use 8 cores the 8320 is about 5-30% more powerful

Can you link me to some videos or sites? Anything, Really.

I would be interested to know more about how they compare.

Almost 1400 posts, where have you been?  The i5 will beat the FX CPU's in gaming benchmarks.  Now, maybe I should further iterate:  You don't look for average FPS only, what you are also looking at is the minimum FPS as well.  Minimum fps dictates how your games will stutter, or if they stutter at all.  You will find that the FX CPUs will hit some bad lows in games, where the i5 will keep chugging.

Don't forget to keep up wit the i5 4440, you will need to overclock the AMD CPU.  That means you need aftermarket cooling, a good motherboard and the hassle... all this and still, the Intel is just as fast or faster.

arnt newer games are taking advantage of having more cores though? single threaded performance of the intel is much higher but wouldnt it fall behind on multithreading compared to the AMD?

The FX 8-core is not truly an 8 core, especially for gaming.  It has four modules where each module shares resources between two cores.

you could start by looking at this site here, they test all the new games extensively and provide minimum, average FPS and CPU per core usage for every games they test...this is all the games for the year 2014...most of them do use 6 to 8 threads consistently...but even a core i3 haswell beats the FX chips even in those highly threaded games (also good to note is the much higher clockspeed on FX chips compaired to intel which are tested at stock clocks)

...and this is the final graph of ALL the games for 2014 combined into one...:
