Can I do one of these with two cats that aren't the same? Say, an r9 280 and an r9 290?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

sadly not since they are diffrent architectures but cards of the same architecture are crossfirable

unlike with nvidia where it has to be the same card

No, since it has to be the same GPU chip architectures.

some cards yes, but not all. and just for crossfire.

 

Like I can crossfire my 7950 with my 7970. AMD has a nice chart of what can crossfire togeather.

 

all nvidia, no
