so my dad has some speakers left lying around in his garage and I asked him if I could have them, he wanted to check first if it would even be able to connect with my computer. so I asked him what the jack of the speakers were (I'm sorry if I used wrong terminology or something, I'm not really knowledgeable with audio equipment), and he answered with PL wire.

so my question is what the hell is PL wire (I tried looking at google images and I couldn't really find anything that was familiar or made sense to me), and can I connect it to my PC? and if so, how?

just got an Asus Z97-A if that helps.

Easiest way to know if it can be connected directly or not is to check the speakers. Does it have a power plug? If it has, then it's active, and you can plug it straight to PC, phone, whatever. If it doesn't, then you'll need a speaker amp.
