Hi, so I have a small problem I need to use a program that can only be run once. (Like skype, so not once in a life time but one at a time) But I really need to run two of them simultaneously. The program is "vitamind" and is a program for recording with cameras and webcams etc. when movement is detected and I would like to use it on two of the cameras I have set up. The good thing about it is that it can send an email when a movement is detected so that's why I want to use this program and not like logitech's own (I have two logitech cameras) because it won't be able to send me an email when/IF something happens.

I know that it's kinda paranoid to put up webcams but still I thought why not and I had them lying around and I don't have to pay anything for any "real" security cameras. I know about laws and such but in sweden if something would happen you can still use it as evidence. I might get to pay a fine or something but I rather do that and maybe catch the b*stard breaking into my house!

But now vitamind has as a free license that you can use one camera and that is why I need two instances of the program running at the same time. Does any one know how to do this?

Regards,

Ludwig Johnson

Well I'm not sure if it would be the best way to go, but you could setup another virtual OS on your computer and install it onto that? I think finding another software that would support what you're looking for would be the easier way to go though.

maybe, the virtual os won't work. The computer Im using is an old none self built hp computer which is like 5 years old or something and it doesn't support virtualization... But do you know any good programs? (Im looking too..)

As far as I know, there is no way to make 2 instances of such a program run at once on one OS. But since it has a paid version at $50, why don't you just buy that? I'm not really sure how practical this is, but if it works for you, I think it's a small price to pay for a security system. Otherwise, you could look for alternative programs I guess.

Yupp, was thinking about that too. But I think that there is a way to do it because I think I read it one of my computer magazinse that I subscribe to but it was a while ago (for msn in the tutorial) and I have a LOT of them and it would take ages to go through them all so I thought I'd ask here or maybe just buy the program. Or something else...

MSN has built-in multiple sign-in support. The magazine probably just directed readers to the options which allowed you to do so. Have you looked at other anti-theft/surveillance options? Just be sure that the program works well and is reliable before you buy it - what would happen if you forgot to close the window and a gust of wind blew some papers around?

Ok, but Im pretty sure that they like made changes in the registry or something and made it able to run two msn applications at once. It was a while ago. I don't think the multi login function was there at the time... Not sure though

I looked inside all the magazines until I found it, and you are suppose to go into regedit and then (in 32 bit:) "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows Live/Messenger" (in 64 bit:) "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Microsoft/Windows Live/Messenger . (I know it's suppose to be a different slash but I don't know how on a macbook pro keyboard ;) ) Then in there create a new 32 bit DWORD-value and name it "MultipleInstances" then give it a value of 1. That should make it so that I can open several messenger windows. My problem still though is that there is no registry file/folder thingy for vitamin d... Can I create one and it will look at it or what? Or is it just the os that cares and it will work if I create a folder named vitamin d and it has the right stuff in it. (need to find out what...) and I add this value, will that work?

I don't know, sorry. However I would recommend against registry changes like this if you're not really sure whether it'll work - since there isn't even a registry location for vitamin d. Perhaps someone else might know?

Yeah, I know that registry changes should not be done without certainty or else it may not work and incase I mess something up real bad I won't be able to do it at all. But I really want it. :/ ;) But I've decided to go with one vitamind and the other will be logitechs own. (And hope that if there is a burglar, he/she will pass by the camera that can send emails...)

But thanks anyway for your help!
