Why am I getting artifacts?

I have a gigabyte 7950 OC'd to 1020/1500.  My temps are barely touch 70 degrees and yet I'm getting the occasional artifact (in a game like CS:GO no less).  Is this as sign that my GPU is about to die?

Your memory is probably unstable and/or running too hot.

Your overclock is obviously unstable.

Increase the voltage or reduce you're Overclock

Drop the memory clock

With my gpu, artifacts are caused by memory clock being too high, when I go too high on the core, the driver just crashes.

Hey, I have a factory OC Sapphire 280x Vapor-X and it was artifacting, with no overclock on my part, only the OC from factory, I increased the power limit to +10 on the Catalyst control center and the artifacting stoped.

 

The problem was, as stated by our fellow forums members, a case of bad OC, either too much memory, core, or lack of voltage to feed the card for a stable OC.

 

Try increasing the power limit if your card is factory OC and is having problems (you could also RMA the card since its not working as intended out of the boox), if its  a manual overclock it is not stable.
