Hi guys,

I am looking to convert to Intel and I am choosing a MB. I have the choice between the Asrock Extreme6 or extreme9. The 6 is much cheaper but I want to go high end so the 9 is the main choice If I can find the moneyz!.

My only question is in relation to the CPU 8pin connectors, it has 2 8pin connectors. My RM650 PSU only has 1 8pin, do I need to use both to power a 4790k with a OC of like 4.5-4.6ghz? Other MB dont need both! So can I just connect one?

I have attached the image, you can see them at the top.

@Samsterstorm If that's what the motherboard has, that's what you need to plug in, you can't just plug in one because that's what other have. But does it really need two 8pin connectors!? My MSI Gaming 7 with the same CPU only uses 1 8pin

Ok, I have seen linus videos where he only plugs in one 8pin and it has 8pin and 4pin? It surely dosent need that much power!

I believe it's only for extra stablity and overclocking and stuff. I don't believe it's needed. Someone state me if I'm wrong though.

I though it was for OCing 2 but I see loads of OC board with only 1! Maybe its for stability...... can u get xeons on 1150 maybe they are more power hungry???

I would say it's more for those OC that are more then you'd be comfortable using 24/7 like 5+ghz

Yeah, I may never go above 4.8 which I run on my AMD FX atm! I can always just plug it in if its needed! Ill just get another cable

You can get away with using just one of the 8-pins...the other 8-pin is there if you NEED it(Extreme OC, many fans, drives, etc)

Yeah, same with the 4pin molex at the botton of the board for like 3way sli plus! Gives me so many options

You should be able to use the connector labeled "1" and be fine with the other not having a cable.

Ok, cheers!

Looks like a amazing board! Cannot wait to try it!

Edit: I have read manual and they are labled 1&2 so I reckon that you could just plug it in!

It's for extreme overclocking really... no normal user on a 24/7 overclock needs a 2nd 8 pin.
