Old computer New to me.

I'm picking up a computer this weekend for dirt cheap and was wondering what you guys think about it. It has an intel 2 quad processor, 2x2gb of gskill ram. Has a 650watt psu and a radeon hd 4870 graphics card and 2 optical drives and a 500gb hdd.

So I did get a deal? The guy said he can throw in an extra 1tb drive for $40 more. Then only thing about the computer is it has no os on it. Any suggestions on the OS? I'm really considering Linux Cinnamon. The main games My wife and I will be playing are Minecraft and Sims 4.

Where I live, its a pretty good deal

 

$40 for a 1tb drive isn't a very good deal though. It is one, just not much of one.

I've never used Linux before and have been reading and watching review on it and the fact it is free is pushing me more to it. If not Linux I will be purchasing Windows 7

Sims 4 only runs on Windows IIRC.

Nice C2Q can be OC'd. Throw in another set of cheap ram and a 1tb HDD and you are good to go for some games and browsing and so on.

Not an amazing deal but not bad by any means. The 4870 is a bit outdated.

You can't get a whole lot of games on it, but there's a fair few decent ones.

Thats a very good price if it's in good condition. Has it had an easy life and has it got good cooling?

Minecraft works fine on linux (Ubuntu is all I've tried) and there may be some way to get other games (Sims) on it but don't count on it being easy...

Ok awesome on the minecraft. I have seen other app that say it can run windows app in linux. Like wine and crossover.

What budget graphics card do yall recommend for this rig?

And could I put some gskill ram 8gb (4gbx2) in even though what is in there is only 4gb (2x2gb)
