I think it has to do with the fact that DayZ is still horribly optimized. 

 

It's not horribly optimized, it's just got a bad engine right now - Plus the map is huge and has everything loaded at once with other players doing multiple things at once.

 

I'm getting lag as well right now, I think it's to do with the recent .54 patch - I'm a huge DayZ fan right now but I am not going to continue playing it if I am getting like 4FPS when in the middle of nowhere doing nothing.

 

I think it's down to the new update, as .53 I had steady 90 FPS.
