I've been wondering. Is the i5-4690k better than its counterpart the non oc version even if you don't oc. I thought this cause it has unlocked cores. Will it boost performance?

in gaming, no

in video editing and rendering and streaming, yes. but in that you would be better off with a locked xeon that costs the same as the 4690k

No, if they both come at the same speed then they should perform the same.

If you don't feel comfortable OCing its worth just buying the non oC version and saving some money :)

bare in mind you can always Oc the unlocked chip at a later date, when you've read more about this.

The normal 4690 is the same as the K, as you said the K is unlocked, therefore, the higher price tag. My friend has the 4690K, if you have any questions about it, you can ask him on his broadcast when hes live this thurs-fri. He will be happy to answer any questions you have.

Awesome that answered the question I was about to ask.. In my situation they are both the same price and I don't plan on OC but later down the road I like the option. Asus Z97 or MSI motherboard? Out of all the brands which has the best BIOS or user friendly for newbs like me?

No problem :) Ask away!

If they're then grab the same price then go for the k version! You can only gain from it :P

I think asus is regarded as very easy to use. But check out Luke's video showdown on motherboards. OI think part three is the one with the bios talk :)
