okay using an older monitor and it has the blue cord with it and I checked and that socket isnt on my gpu im using just two different longer white sockets and an hdmi port (also another longer socket on monitor the skinnier one with a - at end). So do I buy a new cord or get an adapter thanks (and what cord and adapter thanks dont know the name of the socket).

You'll need to get yourself a DVI-I to VGA adapter:

Just like W-L said, you'll need an adapter from VGA to DVI. Your GPU may have come with an adapter, but if not, they're cheap on eBay.
