Hi guys,

Could I please get some suggestions on what workstation graphics card to go for.

I was originally looking at Nvidia Quadro K5200 (£1,500). Then, I compared this card with Quadro K4200 (£700) more then half the price! The main difference is that K5200 is 8GB and 150 max voltage where K4200 is 4GB with 107 max volts. I think I can live with 4GB at least comparing both with the price. Would I really need up to 8GB? I don't tend to work on large stadiums or airport projects.

Then I came across AMD!! The AMD FirePro W7100 has 8GB of memory and it is in the similar price range with Quadro K4200.

I will also not be utilising the cudas. My current GTX680 has 1500 cores and I use my processors for active shades. Can't work while my graphics card is in full load and I want to have a single graphics card workstation. I will also not be considering gaming cards, so please do not start the war between gaming cards and workstation cards. I will be selling the GTX 680 which is actually a very good card. For what I do I will benefit from a workstation card.

Guys, since this forum is full with great minds and enthusiasts maybe you can help me out. I really want to pick the best option here. I don't think it will be the Quadro K5200 simply because of the mad price.

Thanks in advance!

You may want to look at the AMD Firepro W5100. I just installed that and it's excellent for what I do. The W5100 has 4Gb and the W7100 has 8Gb GDDR5.

The Benchmarks on a lot of websites are a bit misleading for workstation graphics cards but there are some Youtube videos showing the Firepro side by side with various Quadros. The Firepro wins hands down.... At least for the workstation applications...
