Hello,

I'm looking to build my first office server, I was wondering if anyone could recommend which hardware to use, it will be a headless server running Debian, the server will be on 24/7 so it will need a form of backup power, the case will need to be able to add more storage on the go, the sole purpose of the server is to deliver and receive files over the internet, ideally the server will need to be as quiet as possible, around £500 GBP is the budget to build.

I appreciate any help/advice.

Cheers, Alex.

Here's one that should run well for you. The case will hold quite a bit of storage and the PSU will handle it. The mobo/CPU will handle the load and will run video via the CPU. The ram can be cut in half if needed - I utilize ~3GB on my home NAS system.

While the mobo only takes 6 drives, you can get a PCI-E sata expansion card down the road if needed.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£49.36 @ CCL Computers)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£54.00 @ Kustom PCs)
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  (£82.99 @ CCL Computers)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply  (£33.59 @ Aria PC)
Total: £452.13
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
