Hi everyone,

I am wanting to upgrade my PC. Although when I say upgrade I mean start from scratch and buy a whole system.

I am looking to spend a MAX of £1000.

I'm not the best with specs and what is compatible or whatever hence the topic.

Here is what the PC is going to be used for:

Gaming - I mainly play Arma 3, but I also play other like Dying Light, Battlefield and more.

Video editing and rendering - I got a camcorder for my 21st to start my fitness channel on Youtube so would be good to have decent rendering speeds for 1080p etc..

General PC use - Of course the usual Youtube, Facebook.

I mainly use my PC for playing online games and when I get my new build I will be using it for video editing and rendering as stated above.

I have done a little looking around online, my friend said I should get the new GTX 960/970/980 with a Intel i7 Haswell processor. Thoughts on that?

I would also like SSD for fast boot ups and games and hard drive for all my other files.

I don't really know where to start. My biggest struggle is choosing which motherboard to go for.

I am from United Kingdom and mainly buy from Aria or Overclockers UK.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

@DannyG

Do you need a monitor as well ? or is this just for the tower ?

Well I am getting a monitor soon, suggestions on that would be good too!

I have also changed my max price to £1000, this is taking into account other things I want to buy which are not tech related. (I can go slightly higher than £1000 if needed)

Just under budget, assuming you don't need a copy of Windows  :)

Also if you need a DVD drive then you would have to get an external one.

The PSU is big enough for SLI GTX 970.

I would look at a G-Sync or a 144Hz screen if you want it more for gaming.

An IPS/PLS type screen would give you better colour reproduction but it wouldn't be as fast as the above two types.

Ok thanks. I would need a copy of Windows too, but I wont include that in the price of the build.

This build.... so good..... Maybe swap out the PSU for the EVGA 650w one, as it's a bit cheaper and will still be enough for the SLI. But aside for that, it's extremely solid.

Anyway, here are some monitor suggestions. I believe you should go for a 1440p display, 144hz 1080p monitors aren't worth it imo. You can get Dell U2515H for extremely high pixel density, or you could go with the traditional 27" size and get the BenQ GW2765HT. Both are IPS, so that's a nice bonus.

The XFX is a better PSU. I have the same one in my own pc :)

I am not a fan of the EVGA NEX units.

That XFX is clearly worse. Has no full modularity B).

Gimme a full review proving it's superiority, and I might change my mind.

Being Semi Modular doesn't make it worse.

The NEX is a group regulated FSP based on the Aurum.

The XFX is a Seasonic based on the M12II.

Here is a review of the 650W version - http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/XFX-PRO-650-W-XXX-Edition-Power-Supply-Review/1604/1
