Old drive causing errors and not being recognized correctly

So I threw in my old 120GB HDD to replace my 120GB 840 EVO which went to another build. There was never really anything on the EVO, other than temporary files I later deleted. When I started my computer up, Samsung Magician came up with an error, and when Intel's Rapid came up, it showed an error as well. And in Disk Manager... It's being recognized as a drive almost TWICE its size. CrystalDiskInfo was able to pick it up correctly though. I kinda need this drive to work, since it was going to be my scratch disk for Vegas until I can get a larger drive.

Let me guess, its from around early to mid 2006? Because I've got a 100GB version (its an MK as well), and its starting to show SMART errors (nothing critical yet though-its still got a lot of life left in it). Long story short-you might want to run a SMART check.

Inside Disk Management> right click the drive and select Format and then make sure you choose normal format and not Quick format then after that is done you go to My Computer>right click the drive you just formatted and select Properties> click on the Tools tab on the window that pops up> click Check now...>make sure both choices are selected which will be Automatically fix file system errors and  Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors> restart and let the checking start on the next boot up....don't press anything and it will begin and when finished windows will start and you can check it then.

Well assign a letter to it and get cracking if you want to make sure if the drive is still good.

Dude. I'm lucky I know how to use Disk Management at all. You gotta tell me what to do bro.

Sorry i assumed you knew this....ok....in Disk management just right click the drive and seleck Change drive letter and paths.... or in your case it should say assign a drive letter.

I can't do that since I'd have to initialize the disk first, and that brings us back to that error I posted before.

Then i suggest shutting down your PC then uninstalling the drive then restarting and following the steps again then shutting down again and hooking back up the drive and then going through the allocation, formatting and disk checking steps again.

Well do it that way.....Also, do you use any system care software like AVG's pc tuneup? It is wise to start using one.

that is for malware i meant for system cleaning like registry and clipboard cleaning and disk and registry defragging.....that is what AVG's pc tuneup is for. I use Winutilities.

Going to bed now...hope you get through and that the drive is good still. I still use some HDDs from 2002 as my movie drives that i have connected to my tv.

Don't give up it is a simple process just a bit time consuming as is anything with troubleshooting.......and your welcome for the help.
