well... the raspberry pi only outputs about 2.5 and is powered by 5V microUSB charger

Unless if the disk reader was made for the pi I wouldn't use it, because its pinout is unknown. It could wreck your pi if it directs power into places it shouldn't or has a "short" in the pin out(where two or more pins are put together to make one).

Hey guys,

 

I was wondering if this will either break or not do anything/anticlimactic.

 

SPECS: Raspberry Pi B+ has a disk reader plugged into the camera module of the pi. I wanted to be sure i wouldn't hurt myself or the pi in the process of this. :)

 

EDIT: I powered it on and no visible changes happened to pi or reader. I tried taking a picture and... well nothing happend. ITS SAFE TO LAUNCH RASPBERRY PI WITH A CD READER IN IT!

I was thinking of doing something similar, and trying to set a Pi up as the controller board for an old FDD of mine (it got fried by a dying 250W AT PSU) as it has the correct ribbon cables.

It is  so nice that you are looking to do it on something flammable too.......GET THE SHIT OFF THE BED AND ON TO A CERAMIC FLOOR NOW!

lol thanks for caring but i never do anything that may cause a fire on anything flamable... lol i did this outside

:D okay then im googling to see if anyone has done this now so i can see if this is either a really bad idea or a really good one
