Am I able to do this?

I have come to the realization that the mic on my laptop, which is 16 years old and only capable of mono output, is the best mic that I own. The laptop mentioned sports Windows 98SE, and I would kinda like to be able to "stream" the audio from it it to the mic in port on my rig using the speaker jack on the laptop. First off, is this even possible? And if it is, is there even a program or something that will allow me to do this on Windows 98SE? I am NOT switching the OS to anything newer, primarily since I use it for older programs, and 98 is the last OS that is supported by it on the Windows side of things.

If you can, set the computer to listen to the mic in the mic settings. Then plug the laptop in using the speaker port on it and the mic port on your desktop. Should work fine.

should be possible but im not sure about the compatibility, the instruction sets have vastly changed these days, most support up to xp and thats starting to stop with the xp support end unless you pay.

Assuming I can, do you think there would be much of an issue with crosstalk or anything?

 

And I just realized I have a LOT of noise when I use the audio jack most of the time. And I don't think I would even be able to find an audio card for the ports on the side.

I would imagine you could use audacity to "record" your voice, and run a speaker cable from the headphone jack of the laptop to the input of your pc and record it there.

Maybe that will work. DOn't know for certain.

I do have Audacity installed, but I'd like to do it if I ever stream or do my voice with my videos on YouTube as I do them.

 

And you know... TeamSpeak.

Well don't actually click "record", just use it to monitor what the mic picks up.

Do you not have an iPhone, or any phone for that matter? As it's really easy to use the mic on that as a external mic as have done it before for recording videos!

Nope. My trusty old laptop has the best mic I have, and it's the most reliable.
