I am still undecided on the components I want for my x99 build, If X99 doesn't seem the best option then I will go for i7 4790k

1. Budget & Location
£1200, United Kingdom

2. Aim
Browsing the web, programming, web design, virtual machines and playing games such as BF4, BF Hardline, Call of duty, Football Manager and most of the new titles such as The division, Rainbow Six Seige etc...

3. Monitors
40" Samsung HD LED TV

4. Peripherals

- None

5. Things I don't need

Operating System.

I am wanting the case to be either the Corsair Air 540 ATX Case or the Corsair Air 240 Micro ATX Case, either one would do if it can fit a 980 into the budget. I would like to if possible fit a GTX 980 into the build but if not then a GTX 970 would be fine.

I plan on going SLI in the future.

I look forward to seeing awesome builds from the community.

Why only a TV?

What kind of VM's are you running?

I am just using my TV as I don't have a lot of space in my room to have a desk and monitor so I can just use my TV for the time being. And as far as virtual machine's I will be running server VM's such as Server 2012, Multiple Operating systems such as Linux Ubuntu, Win 7 and Win 8.

The 980 isn't really worth getting. How's this look? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Q9YxP6

Ok, so you think that the GTX 980 is not worth it?

No, it's 15-20% faster than the 970 but much more than 20% more expensive.

Ok, If I was to go down the X99 route, what would you recommend component-wise?

I don't see why x99 would be necessary.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£268.97 @ Ebuyer)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  (£84.99 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£107.96 @ Scan.co.uk)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  (£54.98 @ Novatech)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (£39.95 @ CCL Computers)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card  (£449.99 @ Amazon UK)

I know you said the 980 isn't necessary but I decided I am just going to go with it.

@WoodenMarker I came up with this build here in the Micro ATX form factor:

The build is missing a ssd which is pretty much essential for any modern system.

The h100i isn't a good value at £85 and there are better and quieter coolers available.

If you want a smaller case, I wouldn't recommend going with the Air 240 as it sacrifices cpu cooler clearance which is pretty important for larger and quieter coolers and doesn't give much room for good sli cooling. I'd suggest looking at the s340 instead.
