Windows 7 reboot with OEM

Go to solution Solved by MdX MaxX,

Windows comes with a lot of programs, do I need those on the ssd?

Pretty much, yes.  Trying to move the preinstalled programs off of the SSD will likely do nothing but cause problems.

I don't want the files. Should I still back them up?

It means that I want to completely start over with the software side of my pc.

So there's absolutely nothing on either drive that you want.  Okay, yeah, just wipe both and reinstall to the SSD and it'll be like starting fresh again.

Do I really need all of my programs? I would rather have games.

I mean, it's easiest.  You can put some programs on your HDD if you want to, but having separate program folders makes for a fragmented, disorganized feel after a while (at least for me).

Besides, you shouldn't be storing games on a 64GB drive anyway.  You'll fit, like, 3 games.  IMO faster load times for only a handful of games isn't really worth it.

Hey guys, here is my situation.

I just finished building my first pc gaming rig, so I went to install Windows 7, drivers and apps. Everything was going fine until, I realized that all of the files and apps were loading onto my ssd. I tried to change this, and ended moved around tons of files. Because this is my first PC, I really didn't know what I was doing so now I have a messy, 3 hour old, confusing pc. Is it possible to restore windows to factory settings with one oem disk that has already been registered? Also will this delete all of the files on my drives, and put the main files back where they should be, (I want this to happen)? And does it matter that I already registered my motherboard?

I am really worried that I will need to buy another windows 7, or live with a cluttered pc.

All help is appreciated.

PS. I also need help figuring out a way to organize files between my 64gb ssd and my 1tb hdd. (I want windows on the ssd) But the questions above are more important.

You should be ok to re-install windows as long as you have a product code. Backup all your files before trying anything though. If all else fails, ask Microsoft support.

As far as organization goes, try a bare bones install of windows on the SSD. That should be somewhere around 10-15GB. After that, carefully pick the programs which are most important to you. Get those on the SSD. Everything else make sure you manually set for programs to another folder on your HDD. With only 64GB to work with, you'll have to really prioritize.

As long as it's the same motherboard, the OEM license will activate again just fine.  The disk has nothing to do with the activation key; it just contains the install files.

Not sure what this means exactly...  If you reinstall Windows to your SSD, it will format it and set it up properly.  Then you can just format your HDD yourself, either during setup or afterward.

As for organization, programs on SSD, media/games/documents/other on HDD.  Unless you have a boatload of programs, 64GB should fit all of them just fine.

On mine I think it was like 25gb for some reason.
